Study: Black men and white ex-cons share equal job prospects

NEW YORK White men with felony convictions have just as much chance of getting a job in New York City as black men with no criminal histories. That's according to a study by the city Commission on Human Rights. The results found black men with no criminal histories are called back 16-percent of the time by prospective employers. That's the same percentage as white men with criminal backgrounds.

Meanwhile, blacks with convictions were called back six percent of the time. Whites with clean records were offered jobs 21 percent of the time.

Princeton University sociology professor Bruce Western helped conduct the study. He tells the New York Daily News that employers are hesitant to trust young black men.
